iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving: High-Level External Signage for a Landmark Leisure Destination
Northampton Signs recently completed a major external signage project for iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving, located at The Pavilion, National Exhibition Centre, Marston Green, Birmingham. The project focused on refreshing and enhancing the building’s high-impact exterior branding, helping the venue stand out clearly within the busy NEC environment while maintaining the bold, modern identity associated with iFLY.
Large-Scale Signage for a Prominent Building Elevation | iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving
The iFLY building has a strong architectural presence, with tall elevations, dark cladding and distinctive red structural features. To complement this, the signage package included large built-up illuminated lettering and logo elements positioned across key elevations of the building. The main “INDOOR SKYDIVING” lettering was designed to sit prominently across the upper façade, giving the venue clear visibility from a distance and reinforcing what the site offers before visitors even reach the entrance.

Illuminated Built-Up Lettering | iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving
A key part of the project was the manufacture and installation of built-up rim and return lettering. The “INDOOR SKYDIVING” sign was specified with 100 mm returns, opal acrylic faces and cool white LEDs mounted within the lettering. This created a clean, bright illumination effect suitable for a large leisure destination where visibility and brand impact are essential.

iFLY Logo and Brand Colours
The project also included the iFLY lettering and red flying figure logo. These elements were produced using built-up aluminium construction, opal acrylic faces and internal LED illumination. The iFLY logo was finished in Red, providing a strong contrast against the dark grey cladding and tying the signage back to the brand’s recognisable visual identity. The white lettering, red logo and dark façade work together to create a bold, high-contrast finish that is easy to read and visually striking.
Refurbishment of Existing Signage | iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving
Alongside the manufacture of new signage, the project also involved refurbishing an existing aluminium iFLY logo. This was removed from site, brought back for refurbishment and repainted in iFLY red. This approach helped retain useful existing signage assets while bringing them back into line with the site’s updated visual standard.
Planning, Access and Installation
Because of the height and scale of the building, the installation required careful planning around access equipment, cable routing, storage areas and pedestrian movement. The access plan allowed the team to reach the high-level iFLY lettering safely while keeping a barrier-free working zone and maintaining pedestrian access through the surrounding area. The project also included planning for the power cable route into the building, ensuring the illuminated signs could be properly integrated into the existing structure.
A Stronger Identity for iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving
The completed signage gives iFLY Birmingham Indoor Skydiving a refreshed, professional and highly visible exterior identity. From the large illuminated “INDOOR SKYDIVING” lettering to the red iFLY logo and white built-up brand lettering, every element was designed to suit the scale of the building and improve recognition across the NEC site. This project demonstrates Northampton Signs’ capability in large-format illuminated signage, refurbishment, access planning and technical installation for major leisure and entertainment venues.
